Chandigarh, December 13: Two miscreants riding a Honda City car stole batteries of 14 vehicles, mostly Maruti cars, and also stole an Innova from Sector 30 on the intervening night of December 12 and 13. The miscreants later left the Innova in Sector 29 as the vehicle did not have enough fuel.

The two suspects arrived around 2 am and started stealing batteries from vehicles.

The duo stole batteries from a Thar, a Bolero, an Alto, two autos and Maruti cars parked outside houses. The incident was caught in CCTV cameras installed outside houses.

Baldev Singh, a resident of Sector 30, said the miscreants also stole the battery of his car. “I came to know about the incident in the morning when the car didn’t start,” he said.

Baldev said the incident was recorded in a CCTV camera installed outside his house.

The suspects arrived outside his house at 2.06 am and left two minutes later after stealing the battery of his Maruti car. Paramjeet Singh, another resident, said the battery of his Maruti car was also stolen by the miscreants. “Since Maruti cars are easy to open, the thieves targeted these,” he said.

Batteries of cars owned by some other residents, including Ramakant, Davinder Kumar, Atam Parkash, Mahinder Rana, Chandan Kumar, Gurdeep Rana and Jatinder Kumar, were also stolen.

The thieves also stole an Innova from the same locality, which was later found abandoned near the Sector 29 market in the morning. Lakhwinder Singh, who owns the Innova, said the miscreants left his car in Sector 29 and stole its battery as well.

The police were informed, who visited the spot and initiated an investigation.

The police took the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area. An investigation has been initiated into the matter at the Industrial Area police station. Residents claimed that there was no night patrolling in the area due to which thieves dared to steal batteries from so many cars.
