The Paragliding World Cup Championship, being held at Bir Billing, has received an overwhelming response.

Addressing mediapersons at Baijnath on Saturday, Vikas Shukla, SDM-cum-chairman, Special Area Development Authority (SADA), said to date,155 pilots from Indian and abroad had registered for the event to be held from October 27 to November 3.
He said there was much enthusiasm among women pilots as out of 155 pilots, 19 had registered for the event.

The organising committee had expected only 130 entries, but the number is expected to cross 200 as 13 days are left for the championship. He said these women pilots belonged to China, Kazakhstan, Russia and India. A large number of pilots are from India, Nepal and Russia.

The selection process for the pilots was on. It included verification of documents, flying hours and health check-up, Shukla said. “The pilots will have to meet 120 conditions laid down under the paragliding norms for taking part in the international event. Another paragliding event “Accuracy Cup” is being organised at Billing from October 15 to 18 in which 40 Army jawans will participate. For the event, a tracker device is being pressed into service for the first time, which will help organisers locate pilots during flying. Later, the device will be used in the World Cup Championship,” he added.
