Hisar, June 15: It has come to light that some persons impersonating as Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials had been extorting money from drivers of overloaded trucks in Hisar.

Sources said a truck driver was issued a challan of Rs5,000 near Jhuppa village of Bhiwani district recently on June 9. On seeing the challan slip, he grew suspicious and contacted the Hisar RTA. It turned out that the challan slip was fake. The challan slip had ‘Government of Haryana’ printed on top of it to give the impression of an original slip.

The sources said impersonators targeted trucks and dumpers with Rajasthan registration numbers.

Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-RTA secretary Amarjit Singh Maan said, “I got information that some persons impersonating as RTA staff were issuing challans to drivers of overloaded trucks. We wrote to the police and the Transport Department about this.”

Hisar SP Shiv Charan said he had not come across any complaint about impersonation of RTA staff. “The police station concerned will take action on getting such a complaint,” he added.
