Chandigarh, February 20: The budget session of the 15th Punjab Vidhan Sabha began on Thursday with the House paying obituary references to prominent personalities, including noted Punjabi writers Dalip Kaur Tiwana and Jaswant Kanwal and singer Lachi Bawa.

The House also paid tributes to the children who died in a school van fire in Longowal and two people who died in a crackers explosion in a religious procession at Tran Taran.

Earlier, Akalis MLAs  protested outside the House against what they alleged was a Rs 4,300 crore power scam.

The protest was lead by Bikram Singh Majithia, who accused the state government of putting additional burden on consumers.
