Chandigarh, February 20: The Punjab Assembly on Thursday extended the Budget Session till March 4. Now, the Budget will be presented on February 28 and not on February 25, as announced earlier.

The decision was taken in the Business Advisory Council meeting of the Vidhan Sabha.

Earlier, the Budget Session got under way with the House paying obituary references to prominent personalities, including Punjabi writers Dalip Kaur Tiwana and Jaswant Kanwal and singer Lachi Bawa.

The House also paid tributes to the children who died in a school van fire in Longowal and the two people who died in a religious procession at Tarn Taran.

CM Capt Amarinder Singh hailed the SC decision to withdraw the Behbal Kalan case from the CBI. He announced that his government would look into the matter.

Just as Zero hour began, Akali MLAs stormed the Well of the House, against the decision of Speaker Rana KP Singh not to accept their adjournment motion.

The Akali Dal-BJP MLAs had moved the adjournment motion on high power tariff in the state. The tariff had been increased from January 1.

Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira alleged that Anwar Masih, caught by the STF in the Rs 1,000 crore drug recovery case, was the right-hand man of Bikram Majithia.

Earlier, Akalis MLAs  protested outside the House against what they alleged was a Rs 4,300 crore power scam. The protest was lead by Bikram Singh Majithia, who accused the state government of putting additional burden on the consumers.
